Who Facilitates Support Groups?Support groups can be led by a wide range of individuals depending on the group's purpose and structure. These may include: Peers – individuals with lived experience who offer mutual support Advocates – those passionate about a cause or community, often bringing both lived and learned experience Professionals – such as therapists, counselors, or social workers, particularly in clinical or structured settings Certified Trainers – facilitators with specific training in group leadership or trauma-informed practices Creatives – artists, writers, or performers who use creative methods to foster connection and healing The choice of facilitator often depends on the group's goals, whether it's peer-led healing, education, empowerment, or creative expression. Community-Led Classes: this should be the list of peers, advocates, and creatives….where I think the support groups should be more professionals, certified trainers and advocates
